The Difference Between PE Pipe and Ordinary Pipe

With the development of the pipe industry, PE pipe has gained widespread application. PE (high-density polyethylene) environmentally friendly and healthy drinking water pipes are made from imported PE100 raw materials and manufactured by GB/T13663. They offer excellent weldability and resistance to environmental stress cracking, meeting both international and national standards.

  • Reliable Connections: Polyethylene pipe systems are connected using electric fusion, resulting in joints that are stronger than the pipe itself.
  • Excellent Low-Temperature Impact Resistance: Polyethylene has an extremely low temperature brittleness and can be safely used in temperatures between -60°C and 60°C. During winter construction, the material's excellent impact resistance prevents pipe brittle cracking.
  • Excellent Stress Cracking Resistance: PE pipe has low notch sensitivity, high shear strength, and excellent scratch resistance, and also exhibits outstanding resistance to environmental stress cracking.
  • Excellent Chemical Resistance: PE pipe is resistant to a wide range of chemical media, and soil chemicals will not degrade the pipe. Polyethylene is an electrical insulator and therefore does not rot, rust, or corrode electrochemically. It also does not promote the growth of algae, bacteria, or fungi.
  • Aging-resistant and long-lasting: Polyethylene pipes containing 2%-2.5% evenly distributed carbon black can withstand outdoor storage or use for 50 years without damage from UV radiation.
  • Good Wear Resistance: Comparative wear resistance tests of PE pipes and steel pipes show that PE pipes are four times more wear-resistant than steel pipes. In slurry transportation, PE pipes offer superior wear resistance compared to steel pipes, which translates to longer service lives and improved economics.
  • Good Flexibility: PE pipes' flexibility allows for easy bending, allowing them to bend around obstacles in engineering projects by changing their route. In many cases, this flexibility reduces fittings and installation costs.
  • Low Water Flow Resistance: PE pipes have a smooth inner surface with a Manning coefficient of 0.009. Their smooth surface and non-stick properties ensure they offer higher transport capacity than traditional pipes, while also reducing pressure loss and energy consumption.
  • Easy to Handle: PE pipes are lighter than concrete, galvanized, and steel pipes, making them easier to handle and install. Lower labor and equipment requirements significantly reduce installation costs.
  • A variety of new construction methods: PE pipes offer a variety of construction techniques. In addition to traditional excavation methods, they can also employ a variety of new trenchless techniques, such as pipe jacking, directional drilling, lining, and split pipe. This makes PE pipes the only option for sites where excavation is prohibited, thus extending their application.

 

Compared to traditional metal pipes and other pipe materials, PE pipes offer lower density, a higher strength-to-weight ratio, a lower brittleness temperature, superior toughness, corrosion resistance, excellent insulation properties, easy coloring, and ease of construction and installation. Compared to steel pipes, PE pipes offer approximately 12% lower costs, a longer service life of up to 50 years, compared to the typical 20 years for steel pipes, and lower maintenance costs.
