PVC-U Drain Pipe Installation and Precautions

Aug 25, 2025

PVC-U drain pipes can be used to replace traditional cast iron and steel pipes, saving energy. Their main advantages include: hygienic water quality, no secondary pollution, low fluid resistance, high transport efficiency, lightweight, easy installation and maintenance, reliable performance, high pressure resistance, excellent sealing, and a long service life. However, drain pipe installation is a concealed project, making it difficult to make corrections after completion. Therefore, special care should be taken during installation.

PVC-U Drain Pipe Installation and Precautions:

1. For sewage, use PVC-U core foam drainage pipes, glued and flanged.

2. Based on the drawing requirements and actual conditions, measure the dimensions according to the reserved openings and draw a rough sketch.

3. Measure the pipe dimensions according to the sketch and cut the pipe. Pipe saws should be made using fine-tooth saws, cutters, and pipe cutters. The cut should be smooth and perpendicular to the pipe body, and there should be no deformation at the cross-section. A medium-sized plate file should be used to create a 15°-30° bevel at the spigot. The bevel thickness should be 1/3-1/2 the pipe wall thickness, and the length should generally be no less than 3mm. After the bevel is completed, remove any debris.

4. Before bonding, test insert the spigot. Do not fully insert; generally insert it 3/4 of the way into the spigot. After the test insertion passes, wipe the spigot to be bonded with cotton cloth to remove moisture and dust. Any oil stains should be removed with acetone. Apply adhesive with a brush, first to the socket and then to the spigot. Then, firmly insert the pipe vertically. During insertion and bonding, rotate the spigot slightly to ensure even distribution of the adhesive. A secure bond will be achieved in about 30-60 minutes.

5. When installing plastic drainage pipes, temporary hanging with a lead wire can be used for pre-installation. Adjust the spigot coordinates, position, pipe elevation, and slope to meet design requirements before bonding. After the adhesive cures, install the fixing supports, but avoid overtightening. When using metal supports, rubber gaskets must be placed where they contact the outer diameter of the pipe.

6. Inspection ports should be provided at the lowest and highest levels of the drainage riser, with the center of the ports 1.0 meters from the ground.

7. After connecting the spigot and socket joints of PVC drainage pipes, wipe away any squeezed adhesive with cotton yarn or a dry cloth lightly dipped in a cleaning agent such as acetone. Allow the joint to cure, depending on the adhesive's properties and climatic conditions.

8. After the pipes are installed, the holes should be promptly sealed and sealed with formwork according to specifications. Climbing or using the installed pipes for other purposes is strictly prohibited.

9. During winter construction, the curing time of PVC drainage pipes should be appropriately extended.
