Pipe and Fitting Connection Methods

Aug 20, 2025

Four PVC Pipe Connection Methods:

1. For extensive pipe damage requiring replacement of the entire section, a double-socket fitting can be used.

2. For leaks at solvent-bonded joints, the solvent method can be used. First, drain the pipe and create negative pressure within the pipe. Then, inject adhesive into the pores at the leaking site. Due to the negative pressure, the adhesive will be absorbed into the pores, stopping the leak.

3. The sleeve-bonding method is primarily used to address leaks at small pipe holes and joints. To do this, select a pipe of the same diameter, 15 to 50 cm long, cut it longitudinally, and roughen the inside of the sleeve and the outside of the pipe being patched, similar to the method for bonding joints. Apply adhesive and then slide it over the leaking area for a tight fit.

4. The glass fiber method is to use epoxy resin and curing agent to prepare a resin solution. After impregnating the resin solution with glass fiber cloth, it is evenly wrapped around the surface of the leaking part of the pipe or joint. After curing, it becomes fiberglass reinforced plastic.

PVC pipe fitting connection method:

1. PVC pipe fittings are bonded using a special adhesive. The adhesive must be shaken thoroughly before use.

2. The PVC pipe and socket joint must be cleaned thoroughly. The smaller the gap between the socket and the socket, the better. Use sandpaper or a saw blade to roughen the mating surface. Apply a thin layer of adhesive evenly to the inside of the socket and twice to the outside of the spigot. Allow the adhesive to dry for 40-60 seconds before inserting the pipe into place. Note that the adhesive drying time should be adjusted according to the climate.

3. Avoid contact with water during bonding. Once the pipe is in place, it must be laid flat in the trench. Backfilling should begin 24 hours after the joint has dried. Use sand to fill the pipe tightly around the edges, leaving space around the joint for bulk backfilling.

4. When splicing PVC pipe to steel pipe, clean the steel pipe joint and apply adhesive. Heat the PVC pipe until it is softened (but not scorched), then insert the socket into the steel pipe and cool it down. Adding a pipe clamp is preferred.
