The difference between glass fiber and FRP is: different definitions, different characteristics, and different uses
1. Different definitions
Glass fiber is an inorganic non-metallic material with excellent performance. Its main components are silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide, calcium oxide, boron oxide, magnesium oxide, sodium oxide, etc.
FRP, that is, fiber reinforced plastic, generally refers to reinforced plastics that use glass fiber to reinforce unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin, and phenolic resin matrix, and use glass fiber or its products as reinforcing materials.
2. Different characteristics
The characteristics of glass fiber are: good insulation, strong heat resistance, good corrosion resistance, and high mechanical strength, but brittle, has poor wear resistance, can transmit light, is not easy to burn, and can be melted into glass beads at high temperatures.
The characteristics of FRP are: high hardness, corrosion resistance, good electrical properties, good designability, excellent processability, and transparency, but poor long-term temperature resistance and low shear strength.
3. Different uses
Glass fiber has become an indispensable raw material for industries such as construction, transportation, electronics, electrical, chemical, metallurgy, environmental protection, and national defense.
FRP is widely used in people's lives. People use it as window glass, which can block ultraviolet rays in the sun and make the room bright. People also use it to make various durable daily necessities, such as bathing utensils, kitchen utensils, and toilet utensils.
